The
Upper Delaware
River at Narrowsburg off season |
|
|
I
visited Narrowsburg, New York on four consecutive mornings
in October, 2007 to see the sun rise over the upper
Delaware River.
I never did see the sun. Through fog and mist, I never saw the eagle nested in the highest tree high above the river that residents kindly pointed out to me as they stopped by my tripod and camera. Even in darkest starlight, I never arrived before the men who drive the delivery trucks out of the Narrowsburg Feed and Grain, or the men who staff the retail office at Narrowsburg Lumber. |
I never beat the fisherman who trolled the river beneath the bridge to Pennsylvania. I never beat the morning traffic on the steel bridge to Pennsylvania.
I did watch the lights go
on at Narrowsburg Roasters on Main Street. Twice, I
drank the the first brewed coffee of the morning there, quite
alone, thinking about how far away a two and a half hour
drive can take me from Let's Grub in West Philadelphia. |
